permitted by the Authorities to do so. If there should be any possibility to ship some goods, we trust you will accept them, considering the attitude the British Insurance Company has adopted and no doubt you will also get permission to continue business relations with us at the present.
As regards 1) We are quite certain you will be allowed to make payments now for all the goods you have received so far from us.
We might further add, that we have insured a
great part of the goods in our Godowns with several
British Insurance Companies in Shanghai and after the Proclamation was issued by the British Government we asked them to confirm us that during the war they will pay any damages we should have; we are glad to
say they all gave us the desired confirmation after
they had received the written opinion from their solicitors without any exception, quite clear,
leaving no doubt that any claims will be promptly
paid. Further we beg to say, that all the Accounts
we have with British Firms in great Britain, China,
India or any other Country are paid promptly by our
firm, in spite of the Proclamation; we regularly place large contracts with British Firms and do not fail to square all their Accounts during the war; we mention it because you say, that possibly an authority from your Consul will be delayed to make now any payments; we understand that you have to adhere to the instructions of your Consulate but we think that we as an Austrian Firm should not suffer
sc.
